National Council of Home Educators
Uniting to promote and protect the freedom to home educate in
New Zealand
The National Council of Home Educators, New Zealand is an
incorporated society set up to encourage, promote, inform and
advance the cause of home education in New Zealand at a national
level
Objectives:
Unity and strength
- To provide a forum in which home educators may unite for their
mutual benefit in matters of national, political or-common
interest.
- To liaise and foster relationships with home educating
organizations within and outside New Zealand.
A voice for home educators
- To promote home education as a responsible, desirable and
credible educational choice.
- To promote the political, legal and social conditions that
support and protect home education.
- To make representation to government, government departments and
others on matters determined by the National Council.
We do not promote any particular philosophy of home education.
We merely adhere to the right to home educate and to the belief
that the responsibility of educating our children rests with
parents.
We liaise with MOE/ERO/Government and consult with members and
support groups for opinions and comment in regards to specific
issues. Through email lists we keep members and support groups
informed of the latest developments. The danger for home educators
is that because we are so diverse in our beliefs and philosophies,
there is little national cohesive unity for some of the often basic
precepts, the foremost being the right to home educate.
Belonging to the National Council enables you to join with
others from throughout New Zealand in addressing existing standards
and conditions and promoting improvements at a national level
