Run in conjunction with the Herald on Sunday, over 4,000 people from around New Zealand have given their views on the council amalgamation. Interestingly, Aucklanders themselves are less enthusiastic about the amagamation than non Aucklanders. 58% of Aucklander state they would choose to remain with the existing 8 council structure, rather than go ahead with the amalgamation compared to 44% of non Aucklanders. A panel of 3300 New Zealanders aged 15+ were surveyed on-line and posed ethical dilemmas concerning money and honesty, and the survey shows that honesty is far from a black and white issue. We're trading off questions such as personal integrity, the desire to get ahead, whether or not we see the victim as impersonal, and whether it is just too much hassle to do the right thing.
